Tectorum Air Plant

Tillandsia tectorum is a fuzzy-leaved plant growing in the high mountains in the Andes in Ecuador and seaside wastelands in Peru. These plants grow in or on rocks and collect their moisture from low-hanging clouds in high elevations. Their botanical name 'tectorum' means roof because they flourish on roofs in the Andes in Ecuador. Their many trichomes make them drought tolerant and easier to take in needed moisture and nutrients in the air. Instead of dunking in water, mist weekly or less in cooler climates. Add bright, indirect light and airflow, and they will thrive for you!

They will produce lovely reddish-purple bracts that make tiny pale lavender blossoms. Over time, they will grow pups and clump together or can be separated once the pups reach half the size of the mother plant.
